Deleting particular files in Windows 7

I'm using Windows 7 Ultimate. There are certain files I can't delete, because I'll get a message saying that I need an authorization from TrustedInstaller.

This happens for instance with some old Vista system files I have stashed in an external drive from my last backup. I can't delete them, although they're not files from the current system and they were there only for backup. I know I could just delete them by accessing them with a different OS or computer, but I'm curious as to how to overcome this TrustedInstaller problem.

Go to the file you want to delete, right click it, select Properties, then the Security tab, then the Advanced button, then on the Owner tab, you can change the owner of the file to your account.

Ok, after setting authorizations it worked, but only if I do this file by file. Is there no way to change authorizations recursively (I've seen you can change ownership on subfolders, but I don't seem to find something similar for authorizations).

You should be able to do that with folders, too.  Here's a web page tutorial on the subject:

The tutorial shows the same steps I've already taken, but they don't work on subfolders and files, only on the particular object you're editing.

I don't remember right now, but I meddled further with authorizations.
