Win7 RSAT receiving "update is not applicable to your computer"

Trying to install Remote Server Administration Tools on Win7, RC1 Build 7100. Receiving dialog box titled "Windows Update Standalone Installer" with the message of "The update is not applicable to your computer."

I installed and removed the server 2003 version of rsat using the Vista dll registration method to try and force it to work before I found the MS release for win7.

RSAT and variants of the name do not appear in the Add/Remove Program list nor in the Windows components list.  The following updates are the only ones listed as installed:

KB970421

KB972636

Need to get RSAT working, so any ideas?

Do you have the right version of RSAT?  For example are you trying to install the 64-bit RSAT on a 32-bit OS?

I've downloaded, and re-downloaded both of the programs. The files are named:
amd64fre_GRMRSATX_MSU
x86fre_GRMRSAT_MSU

I'm running the 32bit version of Win7.

you could use restore point to restore system to time before you install server 2003 version of RSAT, then try install the win 7 one.

Okay, I re-downloaded the programs and tried installing again.  Same message appeared.

Rolled the system back to the earliest restore point I had, which was the one right before the 2003 version of RSAT was installed. Tried installing again, no luck.

When I'm looking to download the software, is there an RTM version that may not be compatible with the RC version of win7? Just throwing a thought out there.

There are no noticable big differences between RTM and RC the only thing which comes to my mine is that if you can give it a try an reinstall win7

Just in case anyone else has this problem the issue is that the RSAT tools that were originally released were for the Beta / RC. The download links for the tools that Microsoft has up now will only work for the RTM version of windows 7. You need to have a copy of the old tools before they will work on the RC otherwise you will get the The update is not applicable to your computer message.

If you want the RSAT tools for the RC, go to this blog and follow the link to download them. Hope that helps anyone still looking for them.
