Question

Installing Windows 7 on ASUS A7N8X Deluxe MB

Asked by: dctengineer

Dear experts,
I've encountered a problem when trying to install Windows 7 on a desktop based on ASUS A7N8X Deluxe motherboard. Windows 7 compatibility check shows the Silicon Image 3112 RAID controller is compatible and I'll need just to run the Windows upgrade after the setup. Nevertheless, the setup says it doesn't have necessary drivers and thus cannot install on the SATA hard drive because it doesn't have the Silicon Image 3112 drivers.

I searched the web, but I cannot find a Windows 7 drivers for this controller...

Can you please help?

You mght try Vista/XP drivers - though I've not done it with a hard drive controller specifically, I have successfully used XP 64-bit drivers because a native Windows 7 driver wasn't available for my network adapter.

Are you trying to install the beta, RC, or RTM version of 7?

Try the Vista drivers OR disable RAID on the motherboard (if you need the RAID capability, then you may need to replace the RAID controller)

The version is RC. Do you think it may include those drivers in the retail version?
(XP drivers won't work)
(I'll try to disable the RAID capability inthe BIOS, as I don't need that - it's a single drive)

The compatibility checker is for the RTM version which is most likely why it says it has the drivers but doesn't when you go to install the RC. So until you get the retail version(releases next month) use the driver in the link dlSmlSS posted.

If you mean the * SiI 3x12 32-bit Windows BASE Driver for Windows 7 from dlSmlSS:'s link, then I'll have to disable RAID function in BIOS won't I?

Do you have RIAD?
Anyway, just give this driver during Windows 7 install. It should work with RAID or standalone disk, because it (driver) tell OS howto to work with HD througt this controller. And if controller has hardware RAID then OS will see just one drive.

Dear dlSmlSS,

that driver doesn't seem to work. Win7 setup does see drivers on the disk (A:) but none of them is considered compatible, so the when a tick is there "hide incompatible drivers" nothing is in the list.

I was able to get win 7 installed on this motherboard using the same drivers I had used for XP.  I remember in the past I had had to slipstream a new Windows XP disk with the drivers included in order to allow it to see my SATA hard drive.

During windows 7 setup I just told it I had additional drivers and pointed it to those drivers on my XP disk.  Worth mentioning that I was also installing the 32-bit RC.

It's most likely the ITE controller you need the driver for.

Windows 7 installer/troubleshoot identifies the hard drive as not being seen but it is the controller
that Windows 7 does not have a driver for. On your Asus CD is a driver folder and an ITE folder is a
sub directory in there. You should have a WIN2003 folder within that and that driver will work on
Windows 7.
