Are outdated Certificates Important?

I'm trying to get a windows media center extender to attach to my PC. I notice under personal certificates that the MCX Certificate for the DMA 2100, which is my extender, out of date, expired 10/30/08.
Could this be my problem and if so how do I get updated certificates?

Then you mentioned the Certificate part ....

What i really could not know is what is your problem ???? is  media center extender not getting connected to your PC .

yes, media center is not connecting to my windows 7 system. I'm searching for clues, and just wondered about the extender certificate  being out of date. the extender and Pc see each other just at the end of setup the extender never connects to my desktop.
