i got the exact same issue.
i might explain that, since it is a exe, it open directly without open another 3rd party.
and the default open is to run the exe directly.
thats my only explanation.

Browse All TopicsIn explorer in Windows 7 there is the "Open" button, to the right of "Organize". The icon directly to the left of "Open" changes as you select different files. It normally changes to whatever file type icon the file is represented by. However some file types like applications (.exe) and batch files (.bat) get represented with the old default windows icon. Why does it do that and how can it be changed. I can't figure out where it pulls those icons from. I have checked the file associations and they are correct. Thoughts? See attached image. It seems that it should change to whatever icon is associated with the file type, no?

FWIW, this problem is also seen for file types .BAT, .CMD, .PIF, .COM and probably some others. Rather than using the "DefaultIcon" value defined in file type association, it reads the "command" value of the static verb "open". That causes the problem.
That said, there is no fix for this AFAIK (or I may be wrong) unless MS issues an update.

EXE's and BAT files are not run by a program, as they are run themselves. This (admittedly) ugly icon is probably stuck there, unless someone has some sort of registry hack or something...?
