Windows Mail in windows 7

I cannot find Windows Mail in Windows 7 Home Premium. I find Windows Live mail. Isn't Windows live an Internet based mail program like Hotmail? How do I get a PC based mail system without going to Outlook?

Windows Live Mail is what you want (name change).

Windows Live Mail is part of a downloadable package offered by Microsoft which contains other software such as Messenger, a blog tool, etc. It is part of Microsofts attempt to a) stop adding so much bulk software to what is primarily an OS (which strikes me as odd since both Apple and Linux both use this as a selling point, with Apple using the "It just works" tagline and Linux using the "look how much free software we offer" and b) to stop upsetting European laws any more with attempts at monopolising the software industry.

Is Windows Live mail on the PC or is it web based?

The Mail program is installed on your disk, just as it is in Vista or Outlook Express in XP. As sno0401 pointed out above, they've split it off from the OS installation.

Just to confuse everybody.

I don't use it, but I assume that it could be linked to Hotmail if you wish.

Yes, Windows Live Mail is a *desktop* application with both POP3 and IMAP support. It also supports hotmail / Windows Live email accounts. It is superior to Windows Mail. It is actually a pretty nice desktop based email client. I recommend it if you do not use MS Outlook.
