Question

How to increase time on options screen on boot?

Asked by: rbudj

Problem 1 is that I do not know what this screen is called.  When I boot my computer, I see the bios flash screen with the options listed at the bottom.  The second problem is that I do not have enough time to read all the options before the computer boots into windows.  I remember studying a way to increase the wait time on this screen but I cannot remember it nor find the resource.  How can this be done?

My Computer - Properties - Advanced - Startup and Recovery Settings - Time to display list of operating systems.

Or manually edit your Boot.ini file by changing the "timeout" value (in seconds).

You can also pause the screen at any time by pressing the Pause/Break key.
Press any other key to resume.

PS:
I think it's called the BIOS boot screen.
:)

BIOS screen

Get into that and enable memory check or extended check.

To get into the BIOS as it boots tap the DEL key several times.  (It usually is the DEL key although alternatives exist).

  Hi there rbudj,,,

Firstly, this screen is called POST ( Pre operation system Test) where the PC start tesing each and every hardware and whether it is working or not . However, the time of this screen depends on how fast can this test be done .
Moreover, as  far as I know generally you will have few options either to access the BIOS and make some changes or have the booting order changed if you are using a Network derive for booting example . I would highly appreciate if you can provide me with some more details about the brand of your PC , what can you see in this time if you are getting something so  I can try my best to give you more help .

Best Wishes

You're right about POST akhafaf, but I believe it stands for Power-on self-test

The pause/break key is the solution for my needs.  Thanks for the info about the Startup and Recovery option, however, this controls the list of operating systems to choose from which is after the POST.  And thanks for the info about what this screen is called.
