Hello,
Not that many vendors have drivers for Windows 7, you could try installing the Vista Drivers which have been known to work in the past.
Cheers

Is there a workable substitute for Windows 7 and HP Laserjet 4 Plus and HP 1220c? I've looked at Microsoft's catelog and HP's web site - frustrated. Thank you.

I object because you asked for HP printers for Windows 7.
TK-77 and I provided you with the links to the drivers. You haven't said that the printers are connected through the network and not local, which is actually the reason why Windows 7 didn't recognize them.
Therefore my suggestion is to split the points between post 25719588 from TK-77 and my post 25719529.
In the question I stated that I tried Microsoft Catelog drivers - the inf files would not install. And no, it does not matter where the printer resides - (in this case another workstation), it needed the correct drivers to install. If someone else were in need of this answer, the correct answer to obtain the best driver to install is the solution I found elsewhere. Now, it's posted on Experts-Exchange. I stated a "workable" solution, the catelog drivers were not workable because they would not install.
Actually you haven't responded to the comments and never said that you already downloaded and tried the drivers from the catalog and the HP website and that they didn't work. The title says 'Can't locate HP drivers for Windows 7', not 'The HP driver for Windows 7 don't work'.
(Besides that, the drivers for the Laserjet 4+ do work here over the network)

I wish to delete this question.
The referenced answer is the most correct "within Windows 7" approach to resolving the question of getting printer drivers where Windows 7 can use them to install a printer. This thread has turned into a semantecs battle for points rather than assistance for someone in the community looking for a solution. This is why unfortunately, I am requesting its deletion.
I don't usually make a fuss about deleted questions, but I have to agree with JBlond. We both offered "direct links" to Windows 7 drivers for both printers...which is what was asked of us. I don't see how semantics is playing a role here. The question was worded very simply and answered accordingly.
Since JBlond answered first, i recommend he get all of the points. (Post ID: 25719529)

Do you already tried these drivers?
If yes, what's wrong with them?
