After the error, it has not happened again. So it probably was a one off thing. But I would like to know which driver caused the blue screen, for future reference.

Browse All TopicsHello, I've had a blue screen with my windows 7 ultimate 64 bit machine. I've been using windows 7 for months, and I often use standby mode, at least 5 times a day. This morning the machine had a blue screen and by looking into the events log I saw it happened at 6 o'clock, when the machine was supposed to enter standby after the automatic nightly backup.
The blue screen code is 9f, a Driver Power State Failure. So it means I guess that a driver was unable to shut itself down when entering standby.
Trouble is, I can't find out which driver is to fault. I've looked at memory.dmp and the minidump file but they point to ntoskrnl.exe and ntkrnlmp.exe. I was hoping they would point to the actual driver.
The minidump is here:

Please enable at least the 'Kernel memory dump'-option. That maybe helps if this occurs again.

This kind of dump file can be useful when space is limited. However, because of the limited information included, errors that were not directly caused by the thread that was running at the time of the problem may not be discovered by an analysis of this file.
Yes the Kernel memory dump is active, when it is you get both a small minidump and a bigger memory.dmp file (which I wasn't able to upload obviously).
Anyway I've managed to use a better symbols set to debug and now both files tell me this:
Probably caused by : VBoxNetAdp.sys
So I guess the Virtualbox host-only ethernet adapter may be to fault. I usually disable it, but after installing the latest version I forgot. But it didn't happen for a couple of days, so it may be one-off anyway. I'll disable it just to be sure, though, and open a ticket on the Virtualbox website.
Thanks for your help, I think the question can be closed now.

If this problem has occurred for the first time I would ignore it for now.
Does the computer enter standby mode correctly now and does it crash again?
