Browse All TopicsI have an old Dell inspiron 9300 that I am using as a windows media pc.. The stats are as follows:
Processor: Pentium M 780 (2.26 Ghz)
Memory: 2 gigs
Video: nvidia 7800 GTX
Hard Drive: 80 gig SATA
I have been running this machine for months with windows vista, with no problems. Although boot time is a little long, WMC runs fine. I am also using a WMC extender with this, which also runs fine.
I read some of the enhancements to wmc included in windows 7, and also read that windows 7 is supposed to run a lot snappier on old pentium M systems. So, I took the plung, and "upgraded.". I did a FRESH, CLEAN install. After the install, I installed the latest nvidia drivers from laptop2go, and ran the windows experience reating-- here are my scores:
Processor: 4.1 (lowest score)
Memory: 4.4
Graphics (aero): 5.9
Graphics (3ds business and gaming): 5.4
Primary hard disk: 5.5
As you can see, although old, this laptop should be perfectly capable as a HTPC.
So, after "upgrading" to windows 7, I go into WMC. It loads fine, but when I go to my movie library (around 100 movies), it slows to a glacial crawl... it takes Minutes to scroll between pictures of each movie. I thought maybe it was just loading up the title shots, so I let it sit for an hour or two-- no dice, it still absolutly crawls.
Any ideas? Again, this was running perfectly fine in vista... once everything loaded (which did take a little long), WMC was snappy, annimations were snappy, it found all my movies within 15 seconds.. if no one has any ideas, I may just "downgrade" back to vista...
Thanks.

I'll also add the folloowing information-- this only appears to happen in "movie library".
Not, for example, in the netflicks or other sub menus, or at any of the top levels.
The movie library folder is a networked folder that contains vobs of movies.
NEtwork connectivity is fine-- I have a hard-wired 100mbit connection (and everything else on the laptop works great)/
Again, this worked flawlessly in microsoft vista WMC.
