Question

Can't reply to e-mails in MSN

Asked by: ScorchToggs

Greetings EE,
I have a user that recently upgraded his Vista 64-bit laptop to Windows 7 Ultimate.  He's using MSN for his e-mail and it appears that the mail account, settings and e-mail all upgraded without a problem. The issue is that when he opens up MSN mail and tries to reply to a message, he can't type in the body of the e-mail. He can select the "To" field and the address book pops up as it should but he can't do anything in the body of the e-mail. I am not familiar with Windows 7 or IE 8, so any help is appreciated. Thank you!

Update: I discovered that if I use Hotmail instead of MSN (even though it's a MSN e-mail account), it works fine. Not sure what's happening so I would still appreciate some feedback. Thank you!

Are you using install Mail Agent of MSN? As you mentioned Hotmail is also MSN so you are not using Web Mail, are you?

Noxcho: Yes, it's is webmail for MSN. I should have clarified my update better. It seems to work fine if I log into Windows Live Mail. It doesn't work if I use MSN.com. I think it's related to Windows 7 but I would love to know more details. Thanks for following up.

Have you tried it then in firefox or Opera?
If not then try. This way we can narrow the problem to browser if it is the cause. My Windows 7 works fine with same MSN Live Mail, just checked.

The user just recently upgraded that laptop from Vista 64-bit to Windows 7 Ultimate. Not sure if that's part of the problem, but it could be if you're saying Windows 7 works fine with MSN. The problem is that I've never seen this laptop until today and I don't know much about the user I am trying to help, meaning I don't know much of the details about how the laptop was upgraded, what type of MSN he is using (paid or free), etc. So, I am working kind of blind on this issue. Thanks again....

Get as much info from him as you can. Then we could get it resolved in better way.
What we need to know is:
1)what mail service (web or local one was used previously
2)How does he enter the mail now? Web or local Windows Mail?

I was able to provide a workaround to using the MSN site by using the Live.mail.com site. Question closed.
