RPC Server is Unavailable Error Trying to View Remote Event Log

When connecting to a remote machine with Event Viewer from one Windows 7 machine to another I get the following error:

Event Viewer cannot connect to computer 'workstation.mydomain.local'. The error reported is: The RPC server is unavailable.

This is happening with all of our Windows 7 machines.  I have checked and the RPC service is running on the remote machines.

I can connect from a Windows 7 machine to an XP machine and view the remote event log.

Few things to check:
1. Firewall.  Is the local firewall on the Win7 machine turned on.
2. Group Policy.  Does your org have a firewall preventing access.  Most orgs have this enabled and need to open up ports to allow connection.

Win7 handles a lot of the traffic/support differently through AD policies and AppLocker settings.

Also, I'm not sure of your orgs build process.  Double check the computer name, etc.  I have seen this error when computers are coming out of sysprep and the network is expecting a diff name.

Can you browse the Admin Shares on any of the machines you cannot manage via eventvwr.msc?

We do have some firewall settings controlled through group policy.  Most of the settings are left at the default settings.  We have the same policy applied to our XP and Windows 7 machines.  I had sort of guessed that it might be a firewall issue.  I was hoping someone might be able to tell me which ports/services to start unblocking.  I'm not sure what is blocked in Windows 7 that was open in XP.
