Dell Vostro 1520 Battery Not Charging Problems

Several weeks ago I posted on EE about having a problem with a Dell Vostro 1520  (Running Windows 7 32 Bit) that was experiencing battery problems.  More specifically Windows 7 was stating that the battery needed to be replaced.  After looking at all of the posts related to that previous question I did in fact replace the battery.

Unfortunately though I am now having another issue.  I have since replaced the battery about 2-3 weeks ago (Brand new, never opened or used and correct part number) and now am experiencing a slightly different problem.  At first the battery would charge and the user would get about 3-4 hours worth of use before the battery drained.

Now all of a sudden Windows 7 shows that the laptop is plugged in and not charging.  I have switched out AC adapters to no avail.  When the user does disconnect the AC adapter and then reconnect it the battery charges very briefly (for a few seconds) and then it states that the laptop is plugged in and not charging.

I am perplexed by this and can appreciate any feedback.  THANKS!

Sounds like the chrging system on the motherboard is damaged in some way.

I guess first starting point is if it's under warranty see if you can get it replaced.

If you have other DELL laptops of the same type you could try the battery in one of those just to make sure it is charging properly.

If you remove the AC adaptor how long does the laptop run before it shuts down?
Run this fixit

http://support.microsoft.com/mats/windows_battery_power_settings/

after running the fixit ...reboot the computer and then check.

Oh and also remove the battery and check the prongs.  Make sure none are bent.  I've had some bent when customers force the battery in improperly.  Most will bend back and work fine.
is the laptop under warranty it sounds like the charging block for the battery is more than likely the problem so you should be able to test it with a voltage tester just match it to the output of the charger for voltage it will be lower power as thats normal as its a trickle charger just make sure ytou match the polarity it will notr be a problem if you get it wrong way round but it will be a negative result

I had a couple of dell laptops which will show laptop is plugged in and it shows as charging - but if you remove the adapter it will die out very quick. Try a different charger. or use the same charger and battery on a same make and moidl -> if it works we found the culprit. If it doesn't back to the charger. Hope this helps

After some confirmation that the battery is defective and testing, it was determined that we may need another new battery.
