Can't access any website through any browser

Good morning,
I currently can't access any website through any browser from my PC.  I can, however, logon to our remote servers using RDP from this PC.  I also cannot ping any outside IP address, including the address of the remote server which I'm currently connected to via RDP.

Has someone dealt with problem previously and can provide the solution to it?  As always, I appreciate the help.

Thanks.

Check your Lan Settings in IE
internet options, connections tab, lan settings ( unless you use a proxy server it should be auto detect. )
Boot the computer in safe mode with networking and then try to access website...if able to access website then the problem might be caused by your security software.

Uninstall your security software ...reboot and check.

It looks like a firewall/security application or a proxy issue.
Do you use any third party security software that you may shutdown just for a test.
try resting IE or uninstalling any/all 3rd party toolbars

All:
1.  I had previously checked the proxy setting.  It's set correctly.
2.  I previously disabled the security software with no luck.  Following your suggestions, I went a step further and uninstalled the software completely.  Still no luck.
3.  I double-checked to make sure that there are no 3rd party toolbars or other similar stuff installed.  There aren't.

Please note that this problem exists for all three browsers I have installed (IE, Firefox, and Chrome).
Thanks.
Did you try safe mode with networking.

Ded9
have you tried to reset the TCP/IP
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/299357
or flushdns cache or disable the nic card then enable or update the nic driver?
All:
I've tried everyone's suggestions with no luck.
1.  Reset TCP/IP
2.  Flushed DNS cache
3.  Disabled and re-enabled the NIC
4.  Updated NIC driver
5.  Booted in safe mode with networking.

Has anyone had to address this specific issue?
You can try with msconfig tool.

Run msconfig tool and disable all non-microsoft services and startup items, restart and see if the problem persists.
Have you ran a virus scan on your computer just to check for anything that could also be causing this issue?
Still no luck resolving the issue with these suggestions:
1.  Disabled all non-Microsoft services and restarted the machine;
2.  Previously ran virus scans on this computer when this issue first appeared.

Any solutions?
what is your virus protection?
Can you check your TCP/IP properties and see that you don't have DNS servers manually entered?
If you have manually entered DNS entries, try to use automatic DNS settings.

BTW, one thing bothers me, are you currently connected to your corporate network? All of these simptoms are the same here when I'm using VPN connection to my corporate network.

This PC that you're currently connecting too using RDP connection, where is this PC, is it on the same subnet as your PC?

What is your home network setup, are you using Router, custom DSL connection or something else?
More results in...
1.  Checked the DNS settings.  They're set to "automatic;"
2.  Reset Winsock and then repeated resetting TCP/IP, DNS, etc.
3.  To JohnGrunwell - I uninstalled the virus protection/security app during one of the previous steps;
4.  To nimatejic:  I am not connected to our corporate LAN.  I am working remotely and RDPing into one of our terminal servers.  I am using a router with cable modem connectivity at my remote location.  These have worked fine before and I am currently able to access websites from other PCs located at this location.  The issue is isolated, of course, to my primary laptop and occurs whether I connect wirelessly or wired.
Maybe another piece to the puzzle...I just noticed that when I ran one of the diagnostics, it returned this:  "Problem Found - Windows could not automatically detect this network's proxy settings."
Thanks for your help.  I read all of these and tried the various suggestion, but still no go.  The network connections show that the laptop is connected to the Internet, but I still can't access any websites.
Post screenshot of network adapter.

Launch device manager...click on show hidden devices on the top...then under non plug and play check for any yellow exclamation, redx or security software file.

Post screenshot or results.

Also, fwiw, I am able to (partially) access some websites when I use their actual IP address.  For instance, the IP address for Boeing's site (randomly chosen) is 130.76.32.44.  When I use this to view their website, I can get to it but I get the results shown in the screenshot below.

It looks like a DNS issue to me.
If you check one of my posts above I've asked you if you can check the DNS entries for your connection.

Can you please post the screenshot of DNS settings?

Reset host file back to default.

Create a system restore point first.

Try this fixit.

I followed the KB's suggestions and created a new host file.  Still no luck.
Did u try removing the mpks from device manager...reboot and check.

Ded9
Delete these two entries

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\Winsock
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\Winsock2

Restart computer ...then run the winsock reset command

netsh winsock reset

Restart computer and check the internet connection.

Ded9
Ded9:
I previously removed the mpks device. No effect.
Removed the two registry entries for Winsock and Winsock 2 - rebooted - ran winsock reset - rebooted.  Still no connection to websites via any browser.

Did u try repair...check router settings.

Ded9
Yes, but the issue happens regardless of where or how I try to access the Internet (via wifi access in multiple locations, wired access, etc.)
Force new dns setting in TCP/IP 4 properties-

Prefered is 8.8.8.8
Alternate is 8.8.4.4

Try these settings ...reboot is requried...make these change on the active network adapter ...for e.g in the above screenshot yo are using wireless internet ..so make changes to the wireless adapter.

Hi cclausen1,
Apologies as a late entry if i have repeated anything already in the thread.

Have you checked your DNS out as the detais above seem to point clearly to DNS issues and you're all getting the user to reinstall TCPIP etc?

Do an ipconfig /all and take note of the default gateway and the dns server(s)

can you ping the default gateway?
Can you ping the DNS servers?

Is the DNS server your own router or an external IP address?
if you have other machines that are working OK, see if these IP addresses match up with theworking machine.

if you have wired & wireless, take note of the gateway and DNS for both. Try turning your wifi off so that only the cable is being used for your tests (wifi takes precendence over wired on default installations)

run NSLOOKUP and enter 'www.hotmail.com' or another website that isnt working (ie returns an IP address)

I noted you mention above you have a webproxy setup. have you tried it without the webproxy address entered so you can see if web traffic is OK when it is not being filtered?

let us know the results of these queries.

Thanks,
Ded9:  Thanks for your input and for sticking with me through this issue.  Ultimately, however, I reinstalled Windows 7 which took care of this issue once and for all.
