windows 7 printer spooler crashing

One of 10 Windows 7 workstations at one of my sites has a crashing print spooler.
The client called me saying they cannot see their printers and can't print.  I thought it was a simple print spooler/printer drive bug.

2 1/2 hours later I'm still looking for a solution.

System passes sfc check.

This is the error:
Faulting application name: spoolsv.exe, version: 6.1.7601.17514, time stamp: 0x4ce7aa85
Faulting module name: ntdll.dll, version: 6.1.7601.17725, time stamp: 0x4ec49b60

I have uninstalled the printers and PDF writers that I can via their Remove Program listings.
This computer had multiple Toshiba copiers, PDF writers, HP plotters configured on it.

I can start the service, but as soon as I interact with the Devices and Printers screen it stops.  So I can't delete the printers via Devices and Printer, nor via the printermanagement msc.

Ideas?

For starters, try clearing out the print queue on the problematic machine:

1. Open a command prompt with full admin privileges:  click on the Start orb, enter cmd in the Search field, right-click on the command prompt icon and select Run as administrator

2. Within the command prompt enter net stop spooler

3. Use Windows Explorer to navigate to %systemdrive%\Windows\System32\spool\printers\ and delete all of the files within that folder

4. Return to your elevated command prompt and enter net start spooler
had a similar problem with a network pritner.  Even with the latest driver I could not get it to stop crashing the spooler until I tired this:

In windows features make sure LPD print services and LPR port monitor are checked
Check print directly to printer.

ASKER

Cleared out %systemdrive%\Windows\System32\spool\printers\ to no effect.

Enabled LPD print services and LPR port monitor, no help.

Followed post 3 as best as I could.  No help.

How can I remove printers from the system when the spooler won't stay up?
We need to get your spooler up,

would this apply to you ?
