Windows 7 Compressed File is Missing

I'm trying to compress a group of small files (about 200-500 files, from 300MB to 1.5GB on average) in Windows Explorer using Windows 7's built-in file compression utility via the 'Send to>Compressed(zipped) folder' menu option. The problem is whenever I use this method, the file that I right-click on does not appear in the newly created compressed folder. Only this single file appears to be missing.

The question is: How can I prevent this one file from disappearing after compression?

Some additional information: This issue occurs on some workstations in the office and not on others. For the workstations that it does exist on, this problem only occurs on mapped networked drives and not local drives. All of these workstations are Windows 7 Professional, Service Pack 1. I compared the zipfldr.dll file from a couple of the non-issue workstations to the issue workstations and found no discernible differences. In addition, I compared the results for searching "zipfold" in regedit and also found no differences. Holding Ctrl or Shift while right-clicking also does not solve the problem, the same goes for using the menu key instead of clicking at all.

I realize that using third-party compression solutions are a very popular way to ignore this sort of thing, however I'm looking for a solution to this specific problem. I'd be happy to go into more detail if needed, and thanks for any help.

Do a Select All first. Then right-click (on any file) and [Send to>Compressed(zipped) folder] will get them all. Regards, Joe
disable offline files, the problem should go away.  We had similar issues.

Thanks for the comments.

Unfortunately doing Select All produced the same results. I tried it with both Ctrl+a and Edit>Select All; the file that ends up missing is the first in the list.

I followed the guide in the link and after rebooting, the problem still exists. I double checked that the offline files service was disabled in the registry after that reboot, but still no luck.

Any other ideas?
Very strange! I was going to suggest that a mouse click may be deselecting that one file, but I can't see how [Edit>Select all] followed by [File>Send to] would deselect the file, since you're not mouse-clicking in the file area...just on menus.

I'm not saying that a third-party zipper is the permanent solution (you made it clear in the last paragraph of the question that this is not what you want), but as a pure troubleshooting step, does the same thing happen with another zipper, like 7-Zip? This will help us to determine if the issue is with the file or with Windows Explorer. Regards, Joe
Joe, I tried 7-Zip and it worked without a problem. There were no missing files to be seen.
Well, then, I guess that points the finger at Windows Explorer...seems that [Send to>Compressed(zipped) folder] is the culprit. Back to your comment that it happens only with files on mapped network drives, not local drives. Maybe it's a permissions issue on the one file on the mapped drive, which is being honored by Windows Explorer and ignored by 7-Zip.
I've requested that this question be deleted for the following reason:

My superiors decided to go with a free, 3rd-party alternative solution after all; I won't be needing to investigate this issue any further now. Thank you experts for your help, please delete this question!
