Windows 7 Install error...

Hi Everyone,

I have a friend’s HP Pavilion p7 desktop. It has a 500GB SATA drive. The desktop would not boot up so we decided to just install a new version of Windows 7 Home Premium. We purchased the OS from Amazon and are trying to do a completely new install.

We booted from the DVD. We got as far as deleting the partitions and creating new ones and then formatting the partition. It actually created a 100MB reserve partition as well.

Then we clicked next and the files started expanding… then it all went south. The install stopped and we got a 0x80070570 error and it said that windows could not installed. We started again and got the same result.

We toyed with the bios and tried UEFI and Legacy, still the same result. I googled the problem but most of the results I encountered were quite old.

I am quite frustrated and need HELP!!! LOL

Thx

Good morning everyone,

Thank you again for all your most helpful comments…

To Mr. Downs:
I ran the tests you mentioned and they were all successful. No failures.

To Mr. Hurst:
The bios allows me to select AHCI, IDE, or RAID. I tried each of them and none worked.

To: jeppo26:
The OS install disks I have are all new (not copies). I tried different disks with no successful results.

To nobus:
Your question is well taken. I certainly erred by not trying to repair the boot problem first. I was in too much of a rush I guess, thinking that a clean install would be the best and most comprehensive solution. A hard lesson learned for me for sure.

So… I guess the hard drive is good because all the tests suggested ran successfully with no errors. The install disks I have (5 in all) are not copies but originals – none worked. The install always stops as the files are being copied and I receive the following error message: “Windows cannot install required files. The file may be missing. Make sure all files required for installation are available, restart the installation. Error code: 0x80070570”

So… Where do I go from here?

I appreciate you all hanging in there with me on this. I very much would like to get this fixed. All comments and suggestion are appreciated. I am confident that a solution can be had.
The factory image might be a good choice if it's available. I'm not sure why you cannot install from your various disks. Are they all OEM? Have you used any of these disks successfully on another HP system?

As a test you could try installing Ubuntu.

It's encouraging that you can run the tests but you may still have deeper problems like a bad motherboard.

Hi Mr. Downs,

About 5 minutes ago I was perusing some google returns on the error message I mentioned in my previous posts. I came across one about swapping out the memory that worked for someone else. I checked and found that the workstation I have here has 2 4GB memory chips (for a total of 8GB of memory). I removed one of the chips and swapped the remaining one to the other slot and started the install again. At the present time the expansion is up to 45% and going strong. Hopefully the problem has been resolved. I will keep you all updated as things progress.

And again... I thank you all sooooooooooo much!
>>  Where do I go from here?   <<  that depends on where you are (lol)
if you try to install on a disk with an other windows install on it, it can be that hinders the new install, so :
when you get to the point 7 from thsi site about drive options, delete all partition first
http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/1649-clean-install-windows-7-a.html

then try to go on
Sounds good. Replacing memory would be much easier than the motherboard. Even though you passed tests they may not have been exhaustive enough to duplicate your issues.
