Applying Windows 8 Propack (licence activation)

I picked up 5 PCs with Windows 8.1 w/Bing and 5 Windows 8 propacks to allow me to join the domain. But when I enter the CD key it gives the following message.

that key cannot be used to activate this edition of windows

What am I missing

The one I have is "Windows 8.1 Pro Pack"

Message below the title sais "Move up from Windows 8.1 to Windows 8.1 Pro with Media Center"

Could it be the the "With Bing" causing the problem.
not sure...was only going by what you said...purchasing windows 8.1 systems with windows 8 propack which would cause the OS message you got; didn't say it is 8.1 propack.  where did you purchase the propack?
Where are you entering that key? Could it be you are not using this procedure http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-8/feature-packs ?
Windows 8.1 w/ Bing is a cheapo version of Windows and you would first have to upgrade to regular Win 8.1 before you can install the ProPack. Basically, you'd have to do a fresh install on each machine.

This is what happens when people think they are saving money and don't know what exactly they are buying.

I needed to to a windows update first and make sure it was fully patched before it would let me.

I guess the originally released it with upgrading disabled (per Williams links), but made a patch later to let it.
I am finding some conflicting info on this. Microsoft barely even acknowledges the Bing version on their site!
Its a little frustrating. Almost no info on it when you search.
