While you are not set to use SSL on the device, do you have an SSL certificate on the server?
Simon.
Main Topics
Browse All TopicsI purchased a new Sprint Samsung I830 Windows Mobile 5.0 device and have had it
for a couple of weeks. I have been trying to get the over-the-air Exchange
Activesync to work but have been unsuccessful. I have configured Activesync
on the device to point to the correct server and set to not required to use SSL.
When I try to sync, I get the following:
Result: Activesync encountered a problem on the server
Support Code: 0x85010001
If I use the browser on my I830 and point to the same server address that I
configured for ActiveSync, I can log in and retrieve my mail through the
browser so I know that over-the-air public access to the exchange server is
working through my device.
Thanks,
Eddie

vasanthgnb:Check whether anonymous authentication or integrated authentication is selected on Microsoft-Server-ActiveSyn
The proper auth setting should be just Basic authentication.
--------------------------
It is set to Basic Authent.
Sembee: to answer your question no SSL certificate on server.
thanks
Is anyone in your organization able to synchronize a mobile device? If you are using Exchange forms-based authentication, even though you're not using SSL, this article may still apply:

Hypercat,
I actually have done that before posting this request, but now all of a sudden when i try to sync it ask me for my password.. so it seems that its trying to sync with exchange server, but i enter my password and it keeps on asking me to re-type my password. i know i have typed my password correct.
please help
Have you changed your password recently? Make sure you go back through the setup steps, check the server name and save the password that way, instead of just trying to enter the password when it tries to synch. If that doesn't work, try connecting it via the cable and changing the password that way. You could also try doing a soft reset - I'm not sure how to do this on your particular device, but at least you could try turning it off completely and then back on again. If none of those works, you may have to wipe it and start from scratch.
In IIS /Exchange should have Integrated and Basic.
If it is a single server, then have a look at http://support.microsoft.c
Sounds like you are as frustrated as I was setting up mine! Are you checking the Enabled status on Exchange System Manager or on the User Account in Active Directory? You'll need Outlok Mobie Access, User Initiated Syncronization and Up-to-date Notifications (if you want direct push) all enabled on the user account in AD. You'll also need to enable them in System Manager under Mobile Services. Maybe you'll need to check the Enable unsupported devices setting, although a Windows Mobile 5.0 device should be supported. Do you have any Device Security Settings enabled in System Manager > Mobile Services?
Test this. Stop the default web site on your Exchange server IIS.
Try to sync. See the error message that you get. If you get the same error message, then this is not an issue with Exchange probably. You will have to check the firewall settings.
This error will pop-up if there is a problem with the authentication settings.
As per your last post, it seems that the auth settings are fine. Still I would recommend checking them again.
Check the IIS logs on the server and see if you get the requests for Microsoft-Server-ActiveSyn
You will not get this error just by installing Windows updates.
Thanks,
Vasanth.
sorry for the last post, this is what i wanted to say.
Vasanthgnb,
i did as you said, stop default web site and now i get
result:
The server is busy.
support code 0x85010017
start it back up and again getting asked to re-enter user name password and domian, and all info that im entering works, i do know my username password and domian. tested it using oma and owa site and will log in with out any issues
thanks
UPDATE------
Changed my password to one that will be easy to type, logged in to my pc without any issue, remote in to my home machine and tried to get into oma and owa with new password and went in smooth, now that i tried to sync my phone and emulator with new password and nada....just like before, it tries to sync but then it keeps on asking to re-enter passwords
What is in front of ur Exchange server????
U have mentioned before that if u stop the default web site and sync u get a different error.
Ideally if u stop the web site u should get server not reachable...but u r getting server too busy.....
Again........did the auth settings on your front-end server???
Have you tried to delete the connection between your phone and exchange server and then re-create the connection? This resolved a slightly different issue with my Cingular Pocket PC running Windows Mobile 5.0. Like your issue, my connection just quit working without any logical reason. Try to recreate the connection and let us know how it goes.
You'll want to do this on your Front End server if you're in a FE/BE environment. (Make sure you do this on all Front End servers)
Start > Administrative Tools > Internet Information Services (IIS) Manager
Drill down to [ServerName] > Web Sites > Default Web Site > Microsoft-Server-ActiveSyn
Right click and select Properties
Directory Sercurity tab
Select Edit under Authentication and access control
Verify it is set to Basic Authentication
Back on Directory Security tab
Slect Edit under IP address adn domain name restrictions
Verify these settings aren't preventing the connection from your Sprint device
Back on Directory Security tab
Select Edit under Secure Communications
Verify the require SSL settings match what you are using on your Sprint Device
Global Settings > Mobile Services are all enabled
in Device Security Button i have the following enabled.
enforce password ondevice
-minimum password lenght
-inactivity time 9 minutes)
-wipe device after failed (attempts0
-refresh settings on the device
-allow access to devices that do not fully support password setting
no exception...
all these were enable before when phone was working
thanks for the help
Start > Administrative Tools > Internet Information Services (IIS) Manager
Drill down to [ServerName] > Web Sites > Default Web Site > Microsoft-Server-ActiveSyn
Right click and select Properties
Just do a screenshot of each window / tab / etc... That way we can do a complete compare of the settings you have vs the settings that are working on mine.

The only differene I see is that I have Require SSL enabled. You have more tabs than I do though, so if one of those are playing into the mix I wouldn't be able to compare to mine. (i.e. ASP tab)
Can you take a screen shot of the Exchange Features tab of your user account properties? Shouldn't contain any conf. info, but feel free to blank out whatever you don't want seen.
we dont have a SSl certificate.

What about the Web Sharing tab on the properties of the following folder:
C:\Program Files\Exchsrvr\OMA\Sync
And also the on
Exchange System Manager > Administrative Goups
Drill down to your Server > Protocols > HTTP > Exchange Virtual Directories
Right click and select Properteis
Do a shot of the settings tab
websharing tab is as following
(.) _shared this folder
Microsoft - server - Activesync
--------------------------
settings tab in Exchange Virtual server propertis
outlook web access--------------------
enabled forms based authentication is uncheck
You can check this out, but it sounds like it shouldn't apply...

i have tried that option and its a no go..
ive been doing some googling and see alot more people are having this problem since when i first posted this more than a month ago.
HELP!!!!!!!
to make things even worst my CEO is buying the new 755 treo and wants to be setup to direct push. dont know what to do... i should quit now..lol
We have the same problem here, the device is a Samsung IP830W. What we look like:
Exchange 2003 SP2 fully patched on top of Windows 2003 SP1
No front-end server
Outlook Mobile Access enabled, TWO DEVICES WORK OVER ACTIVESYNC:
- Treo 650 Palm O/S
- Treo 700 W
Outlook Web Access enabled and working
Custom built SSL cert is being used <<---Could this be the problem?
The log files (W3SVC1) show the device hitting the server.
Sorry Jeff, thi sthread just hadn't been updated for a while so I thought you might get better response on a fresh one.
As far as the mobile carrier, i have not entries on mine and it has been functioning with both Sprint and Cingular (AT&T)
To be honest, I have never even looked at that setting before. You might try wiping it out and see if it works. (if you do create another question let me know and I'll track that one. I've put a lot of fight into getting my sync working so I may be able to prevent a few headaches for you)
Thanks, Willie. I realized there hadn't been much activity after I posted last. I put about a good week into getting mine worked out as well. I have it running at two companies and have used multiple devices, this particular phone is the only one I've had trouble with. The user may be giving it up for another device because of other issues so I may not have to pursue it.
I do wish that people would close their posts if they are finished with them, and assign points accordingly. I guess they just forget sometimes.

Check whether anonymous authentication or integrated authentication is selected on Microsoft-Server-ActiveSyn c virtual folder in IIS.
The proper auth setting should be just Basic authentication.
Thanks,
Vasanth.
