wm 5.0 and exhange do not sync with godaddy cert but work with self signed cert

Cingular 8125 works fine syncing with my exchange server with my self signed cert that says issues but me for me. When i try to use my cert from godaddy i get the lovley your server has an invalid root certificate error message during active sync when plugged in.

i installed the intermdeiate cert bundle from go daddy
i installed the cert from godaddy

when i owa and view the cert it looks fine.

when i try and sync the phone it errors. what have i done wrong with the godaddy cert that makes it refuse to work where as the self signed cert works fine.

Probably nothing.
Take a close look at the certificate chain again. Are you sure that the root certificate above your certificate is actually on the device.
It's one thing to have it on a Windows PC for OWA but they're not all on Mobile Devices though.
Since it's all fine on OWA you can export any cert you need from right at the top of the chain and copy/install them onto the device.

both certs are on the server. but dont seem to be on the device. obviously my self signed cert i had to manually put on the device and import it. do i have to do the same with the godaddy cert?

The whole point of the GoDaddy certificates is that they are trusted by most Windows Mobile 5 devices so nothing has to be installed. Look in the certificates applet at root certificates and ensure that there is a certificate from Starfield in there.

the intermediate cert was installed to both the trusted and the intermediate. deleted it from the root and installed the proper godaddy root based on sembees page. Great bit of info. just wish i had seen that before i ripped all my hair out.
