Is there an alternative to Outlook for PIM Sync (calendar,tasks and contacts including Categories) ?

As an ex-palm user I'm used to be able to sync all data to my PC (the lovely Palm Desktop). In WM you have two options (as far as I know):

-use Outlook (not express ed.)
-use Excange Server (o.t.a.)

None is realistically priced for private use.

The most promising alternative I've seen is www.birdiesync.com , but it involves messing with your registry settings.

Isn't there a dedicated sync program for Vista/WM?

Something like Missing Sync for Mac...

Or an OTA service that syncs ALL pim data and its CATEGORIES, aimed for private use (not ZYB or Funambol).

(Why doesn't Mobile Device Center sync with Vista Calendar...?)
