Unable to remove ActiveSync 4.0 or install another version

I'm running Windows XP SP2 and recently I uninstalled Office 2007 and then removed Access 97 from my computer. Once I reinstalled Office 2007 my Dell Axim x50v would not syncronize. I attempted to reinstall the ActiveSync 4.0 software that came with the PDA but keep receiving the attached error message. I then went into Add/Remove Programs and attempted to remove the 4.0 version but all I get is a "Fatal Error During Installation" error. I've tried installing newer versions of the software but keep getting the attached error. I've manually removed the Microsoft ActiveSync folder from C:\Program Files as well as gone into the registry per another website and deleted some registry files (I backed up the registry first before doing this). Does anyone have any suggestions on how I can get this fixed?
