CE4.2 and CE5 Question

Hiya
We have a problem with a 3rd party and the software they have provided us to use.
We use their software to develop an app for use on handheld devices.
The problem is this.
Our solution has been working fine on a CE4.2 device running a ce4 runtime provided by them.
We then had a CE5 device - made by the same people Psion Workabout Pros - and they said to use the ce4 runtime on the ce5 device saying that there were no issues.
We then immediately experienced problems with synchronization times increasing by 10 times.
Do you think there is any issues with using a ce4.2 runtime on a ce5 device?
