well, it depends on what are you going to do with the devices. you definitely can use just the SDK (with C++ or C#/VB.NET)
what does this MCL client software do? from www.mcl-collection.com one could conclude that it is yet another framework to make RAD development. if you want it, well, maybe that's worth its charge.
but surely you can develop whatever you need with just the SDK
