Certificate on Exchange server 2007 is not valid

Hi

I am trying to sync my HTC windows mobile 6 device with exchange 2007, but keep getting the error "the certificate on the server is not valid. contact your exchange server administrator or ISP to install a valid certificate on the server".... i have used the local CERTSRV (CA) to create a certificate on the server and imported the request into IIS, OWA is working. I think the problem is the cert on the server not being a 'ROOT' certificate as it does not appear in the mmc certificates console as a root certificate...
