Question

Where to find OEM XP Tablet Edition ISO?

Asked by: cmitri

Hello, I am repairing a Toshiba Tablet, but do not have a CD for XP Tablet edition in my arsenal.  I have done a search on MS Technet and some torrents, but have only been able to find an MSDN copy, which doesn't work with the COA on the laptop.

Anyone have or know where I can find an OEM XP Tablet Edition ISO image?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

-Steve

With that said......

Is the i386 directory on the machine? If so, then you can create a bootable XP CD to take your OEM key on the COA sticker....

Create a bootable XP CD from your I386

I have tested on multiple occassions successfully....

Never tried this link though....

And I would NOT try and find any off of torrents etc, as they might be patched and full of security holes....

Can't offer you a link to an .iso download other than Technet & MSDN - you'll really need a matching Toshiba OEM CD for this for the CoA code to be valid and be sure to match the SP version on the sticker.

Thanks for the suggestions.

I was hoping I wouldn't have to order anything from Toshiba as this is a rush job and needs to be out my door in 2 days.  Also, the Hard drive is a goner and I was lucky to grab the data in its current state.

As far as the COA sticker on the bottom of the laptop...the only thing I can read is the actual Product Key.  Everything else as far as versions, etc has been worn off.

Looks like there's not much I can do and may have to resort to installing vanilla XP Pro with the time constraints.

Again, thanks for the tips!

-Steve

It is not illegal to download a copy of an operating system if you own a license.
As long as you have a valid xp pro license, go and download a torrent (XP with SP3) so you save yourself the trouble of updating for 3 days :)

"It is not illegal to download a copy of an operating system if you own a license."

If you ask MS this, they will surely NOT tell you this is legal..... You really trust the .isos out there for MS Windows?

He can download an untouched copy and compare the hash to msdn.

What type of Toshiba is it, can you give me the model number please.

>>"It is not illegal to download a copy of an operating system if you own a license."
And you can back up this statement with something from Microsoft?

>>He can download an untouched copy and compare the hash to msdn.
But that's no help as it's not the MSDN version they have the CoA for the Tosh OEM disk will have a different #

But you are right that the Toshiba CD is system specific - if you've the Portege listed then the eBay edition will work if you don't it won't

I don't see why we need the toshiba version?
He can use any windows and download the tablet button drivers, and tablet software from the toshiba website.

by: cmitriPosted on 2009-08-11 at 14:58:30ID: 25073912

It is a Toshiba Portege M205-S810

I have already loaded an OEM XP Pro SP3 disc.  It took the COA key on the bottom no problem and the activation went fine as well.

Obviously the tablet features are not functioning at the moment, but is it really possible to load the tablet features separately?  I don't have much experience with Tablet, so sorry if I sound a bit newb-ish on the topic.

BTW: Toshiba's support site is awful.  They don't even list the model under support.  I had to manually type in model to find the drivers for it.

by: cmitriPosted on 2009-08-11 at 15:03:57ID: 25073959

BTW: OEM is OEM.  Doesn't matter if it's Toshiba, Dell, HP, Compaq, etc.  Sometimes the SP makes a difference, but rarely.  I use store bought OEM SP3 disc's for all various makes and models without issue.

by: RDAdamsPosted on 2009-08-11 at 15:11:46ID: 25074014

I took a look but couldn't see anything specific for that model on drivers.  Maybe try the other M200 series to see what they have.....there are only two of them so they may be generic enough to work for all three models.

I really hate to object, but I think that the first answer answered the actual question....... Dont even care about the points.....

I just prefer to see accuracy in the Database....I wont object, but I want this to be in the thread when it is PAQ'ed....
