Rapid repeating keystrokes take over Toshiba laptop

This seemingly simple problem seems to be destroying my laptop.

I have a Toshiba Portégé laptop/tablet M700-S7005X running XP tablet edition 2005 SP3. It Is a little over a year old. For the last month I have been having this problem of typing something in when suddenly an arbitrary keystroke begins repeating at machine-gun speed including sound effects. It will fill any text object that the cursor is in at that time. If the cursor is not in a text object, then it will scroll just as rapidly through whatever list it is in. For example, if I have the control panels window open, it will select in sequence every click control panel over and over again.

Because this will take over in any process I click on, usually I can only stop by pressing the power button to turn off the laptop. I am not sure if it is always the last keystroke that I type that starts repeating.

I am using an Apple Bluetooth small keyboard, but removing it makes no difference.

I tried deleting Roboform (which fills in my passwords and forms,) Rapid key and Dragon NaturallySpeaking without any success. The problem is so bad that yesterday this happened about 10 times and it seems to be getting more frequent. I went into the keyboard control panel and slowed down the rate of keystroke repeat and increased the lag time to see if this would work. I also turned off auto fill as best as I could on my browsers. I usually use Firefox 3.52 but this happens on any program that I use.

I spoke with Toshiba support who said that they had heard of this but he was vague about whether it was software or hardware. He speculated that the motherboard had to be replaced and suggested that I turn in my only operating computer which I use in my daily work for 2 to 3 weeks or more. Please help if you can.

Thanks, Stan
