Vista: Restore EXE file association

Windows Vista - EXE files are all now opening with Internet Explorer. Thus no programs are able to run. Tried to go to the file association area but .exe is not listed
Cannot access regedit or any other executable.

How can I restore file assocation for exe files? I have not rebooted the pc since this occured and since the pc is new, im not sure there is any restore point available.

Thanks. What apparently happened after further research, when downloading QuickBooks from Intuit, their download manager changed the file association for exe files to Internet Explorer. Having to try and install 3rd party software on Vista is not for the faint of heart.
