The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. Networking Vista and XP via Ethernet crossover cable with a dialup modem?

Trying to help my Sis get hooked up to the net again via her husbands computer. I had them networked together with his being the primary computer where the dialup modem was and then had them hooked together via a crossover cable using the Ethernet. Well, he burnt out 3 modems recently and gave up. Decided to get a new computer. His new computer has Vista on it. My sisters has XP. I can not get hers to hook up anymore. It shows the little computer monitor icons in the bottom right corner and says it is connected but it is unusable. I read something somewhere that you could have a problem if you were not using an updated router. Since we are not using a router at all, could the problem be with the Ethernet card in my sisters XP machine? I feel so sorry for her as she has no way to hook up when he is on using his machine now. She has little and enjoys getting on MSN and communicating with her kids that live far away etc. Any thoughts on how I may be able to try to help her out here? I live 3 hours from her but would make another trip down there if I thought I could get this resolved for her. Thanks for the help, again.
