You can use any version of Windows, Vista or not, in a business environment, the problems are what features are disabled. With Home Premium, you cannot join a domain, among other things.

I wonder if it is actually forbidden to use Windows vista in a Business environment. One of our machines has it, and it wouldn't even connect to a Samba share. That wasn't the case with Windows XP. So I am beginning to wonder if you should use Vista Home Premium in a business environment at all! For all I know it might be semi-illegal ???!!! Any thoughts/infos?

It's not illegal (or even semi-legal) to use Vista Home Premium in a business environment. However, Vista comes in five different versions, all with different capabilities. This link shows the five versions and explains what environement they are typically configured for: http://www.microsoft.com/w indows/pro ducts/wind owsvista/ e ditions/de fault.mspx
If you're not getting the capabilities you need, you may want to consider an upgrade to the Business, or even the Ultimate versions.
