Anyone have any ideas about this error?

Browse All TopicsHello. When I setup a Vista VPN client to connect to my vista server I get.
Error: 812 The connection was prevented because of a policy configured on your RAS/VPN server. Specifically, the authentication method used by the server to verify your username and password may not match the authentication method configured in your connection profile. Please contact the Administrator of the RAS server and notify them of this error.
The MS client works fine on all XP Pro workstations.. Any help would be greatly apreciated.
Note: I have already tried changing the registry to allow PPTPWeakCrypto.
Thanks!

That would be accomplished in two different areas.
Allowing user dial in permissions:
1.) Open AD
2.) Choose User
3.) Select Properties for that user
4.) Click the 'Dial-In' Tab
5.) Check 'Allow Access" for Remote Access Permission (RAS) aka VPN
**Note: In the future you should really allow them based on a Remote Access Policy but that is outside the scope of your question.
Setting up VPN or RAS
1.) Open up Routing and Remote Access
2.) Highlight your RAS server and right click for the properties tab
3.) Click on the 'Security' tab
4.) Click on 'Authentication Methods'
5.) Select (MS-CHAP v2) and any other corresponding methods you need
6.) After all this you will have to restart the Routing server for the change to take affect
7.) Do this by right clicking on the server name like above, Click 'All Tasks' then 'restart'
**Note - Make sure no one is connected via VPN when you reset it as it will boot them off.
Best of Luck

I have the exact same issue with the same variables you have. My attempt to modify the RAS settings as well as security settings also failed. I will be interested to see a solution to this issue.
