Question

vista boot problem

Asked by: gio41uk

m having a problem booting windows vista, its a compaq pressario.

What was happening before it happened was it was uploading an update from the company when it had been switched off, this might be what was happening before it crashed.

Ive tried F8 and all the choices in there, when u try recovery console it just sits there but doesn't get to the page.

I tried using erd commander but it just crashed with that, probably because it was for xp and not vista.
Also tried xp disc so that i could do a repair console, that didnt work.

So has anyone any ideas or applications i could try.

cheers

You need to :

1) Make sure that the drive and data are intact. Run the Vendo disk diagnostics.

2) Try to boot from Linux Knoppix Live CD, or UBCD and see if the hardware is OK.

3) Run a fixboot or Fixmbr from a bootable Vista DVD

or

use a repair util to fix the Vista boot record.

I hope this helps !

Linux Knoppix crashed because it couldnt boot, started to boot but came up with the (not supported) error, graphics i think, nothing on screen.

I have a vista disk with 12 oem versions on it and one is the version of comp i have compaq but when i go thru the procedure to try and do the start-up repair boot it just stops at the first page (sits there with the egg timer).

Its the same when i try and do the repair feature in the F8 page, just stops working, wont move on

Pretty much as I suspected, hardware issues.

Besides nobus's suggestions, see if the UBCD will boot.

I hope this helps !
