The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

Exporting 1 Section From Old Reg to the New One

Asked by sparks2000 in Windows Vista, Windows Media Player, Windows Registry Cleaners

Good day,

I have recently backed up the registry I have and run "Windows Line OneCare Safety Scanner - Beta version for Win Vista". The application fixed many problems I was facing due to some irrelevant Registry entries. However, it ruined "Windows Media Player 11" so now it doesn't open.
Since I have Win Vista Ultimate and WMP11 comes as an integral part of it (i couldn't be uninstalled and re-installed again).
I tried to uninstall and re-install the cumulative update package for WMP11 from Microsoft but this didn't fix the problem.
I'm sure that the problem is due to the registry because when I double clicked the back-up-registry file, it exported iself to the new registry and WMP worked again, however all the previous problems related to the old registry re-appeared.
So, I did a "System Restore" to revert to the new registry (without WMP working).

My Question Is: Is there a way to export only the section related to WMP from the old registry to the new one (Knowing that when I tried to locate WMP-related entries by opening the back-up -registry file with MS word, it exceeded 32000 pages wihout having the whole registry loaded and MS words found more than 300 "media player" words in the document.

In other words, how can I open the old registry file with Reg Editor and Export the WMP section to the new registry? How? (by Run ---> Regedit, the new registry opens by default).

Please explain your suggested solution in a simple step-wise manner since I'm not a computer wiz.

Thanks in advance...
