It is easier if you follow this. Than trying to do it step by step through EE
I know you have not installed the driver it was probably retained from windows XP and is not compatible with Vista. Stopping the startup might allow you to get the desktop running and install newer drivers
After you install a device or update a driver for a device, Windows Vista may not start

Have you tried the Dell Website
AMD Radeon Xpress 1270
Release Title: Video: AMD Radeon Xpress 1270, Driver, Windows Vista 32-bit, Windows Vista 64-bit, Multi Language, Latitude D531, D631, v.8.342.3.1.1-070414a-, A00

Go to windows updates, (Microsoft updates) and manually check to see if Microsoft doesn't offer the driver you need for the AMD Radeon Xpress 1270. I prefer the Dell drivers if possible. Blue screen of death is most often cause with a driver problem. I am suprised that automatic updates has not helped you with this problem already. of course you could always go to device manager and check for yellow explanation points. open it up and roll back to the last driver that worked.

Can you send the exact error message on the Blue Screen. Errot code is useful too.
Thanks
