When the machine reboots press F8 this should give some extra boot options.  Select Safe Mode.

If it starts then you could disable the Terminal Services service.  If this is the one that is causing the problem.

by: GreenclockPosted on 2008-01-13 at 09:25:29ID: 20648301

If there is an Advanced options, and it includes and option to switch of the automatic reboot then choose this option.

When it reboots when choosing shutdown it gives me the option to choose safe mode, i have done this and it has the same problem, where are the advanced options??

by: GreenclockPosted on 2008-01-13 at 09:28:09ID: 20648308

This should be the Menu You get.
You want to select
"Disable automatic restart on system failure"
  "Enable Boot Logging"

1. Repair your computer,
2. Safe Mode,
3. Safe mode with Networking,
4. Safe mode with Command Prompt,
5. Enable Boot Logging,
6. Enable low resolution video (640x480),
7. Last Known Good Configuration (advanced),
8. Directory Services restore mode,
9. Debugging Mode,
10. Disable automatic restart on system failure,
11. Disable driver signature enforcement,
12. Start Windows Normally.

Hi

I was unable to find anything to try with this error on the dell website

Why did you mention the DLL?

by: GreenclockPosted on 2008-01-13 at 10:20:40ID: 20648522

Ignore the Dell link.

The problem is most likely the ATI drivers.  we need to find a way to uninstall them.

by: GreenclockPosted on 2008-01-13 at 10:32:49ID: 20648556

I know you have not installed the driver it was probably retained from windows XP and is not compatible with Vista.  Stopping the startup might allow you to get the desktop running and install newer drivers

After you install a device or update a driver for a device, Windows Vista may not start

Hi Greenclock

I have noticed that my ATI Radeon X1270 does not have any drivers to be downloaded from anywhere including the ATI web site

What else can I do?

Have you tried the Dell Website

Go to windows updates, (Microsoft updates) and manually check to see if Microsoft doesn't offer the driver you need for the AMD Radeon Xpress 1270.  I prefer the Dell drivers if possible.  Blue screen of death is most often cause with a driver problem.  I am suprised that automatic updates has not helped you with this problem already.  of course you could always go to device manager and check for yellow explanation points.  open it up and roll back to the last driver that worked.
