The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

Vista - file sharing not working one way

Asked by chilternPC in Windows Vista, Windows Networking

my client has 3 vista business PCs networked and talking to the internet and 3 printers on the network. I have been ask to solve the file sharing problems they have.
1) I have configured the network correctly for firewalls, network discovery, workgroup names, DHCP etc. 2 of the 3 are working correctly. All 3 can use the printers .  I think I have found a bug in vista.
one of the PCs refuses to turn off "password protected file sharing"
2 of the PCs no problem  password file sharing went off  - one PC - when you click on "turn off password file sharing" - it simple ignores it and keeps the password file sharing enabled.  so when the other 2 PCs are trying to connect to this one rogue over the network, it prompts for a username and password - yet  none set up. all PCs log straight on without passwords. The guest accounts are all enabled.  All updates have been applied to all 3 PCs which are of identical build.
the rogue PC can see the other PCs on the network and access  their folders.  The other 2 PCs can see each others but not rouge one (because I cannot disable password protection onthe file sharing).
the problem is clicking on  "turn off password file sharing" it simply applies my button click and refreshs with the password still enabled !!! arrgghhh  - has anyone had a similar problem with changing the password fileproection?
yes and I've checked all the articles in MS  such as http://technet.microsoft.com/en-gb/library/bb727037.aspx#EDAA
