The Solution Rating System
|
|
| With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating. - The Grade of the Solution
- The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
- The Number of Author and Expert Comments
- The Number of Experts Contributing
- The Feedback of the Community
Your Input Matters Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site. If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support. Thank you! |

Asked by idmac2 in Windows Vista, Networking Hardware, Network Cards & Adapters
Using Win Vista Ultimate with most recent updates installed. Norton installed. User account control turned off. Defender OFF. Windows Firewall is Off. System attached to cable via a router.
I installed a Zina digital photo viewer (approved for XP but not Vista) that attaches via the USB. Things seemed to go OK until I removed the key chain device without stopping the USB device. The system locked and my mouse & keyboard (wireless) were inoperable. Having no way to bring up Task Manager, I used the "Power OFF" button. Upon restart, I lost my network connection. Device Manager has no Network devices listed. I tried to roll back using a previous good System Restore point. The Restore was unsuccessful and displayed the message "System Restore did not complete successfully. Your computers system files and settings were Not changed. Details:An unspecified error occurred during System Restore". I repeated this step using an earlier Restore point. Same result. Thinking that perhaps there was a corrupt file from the "hard shutdown", I ran Chkdsk, No errors found. The Zina device was uninstalled with no improvement. I then installed an add on network adapter card. On boot up, there was no message "New hardware found" and the device is not listed in the Device manager either. I took the system to the Geeks at BestBuy and their recommendations was to reinstall the OS. I have since run SFC /scannow and it reports Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files but was unable to fix some of them. Details were included in the CBS.log but I don't have the knowledge to interpret them. Upon reboot, results are unchanged.
