Question

How tell Vista Security Center to ignore disabled UAC BUT STILL alert me about other stuff?

Asked by: dgrrr

I turned off User Account Control on my dad's computer, and now I want to disable the nagscreens that say ""check your user account control settings"", etc.

NOTE -- I know I can go into Windows Security Center, and "change the way windows alerts me".

But in this menu, there are only 3 options -- "notifyi and display icon", "dont' notiofy and do display icon", and "don't notify or display icon".  WTF? In XP, you could pick and choose which item to NOT be reminded about -- eg.g, antivirus status, firewall status, etc.

Where is the analagous menu in vista? (I still want to be reminded if my antivirus or firewall are down, but I don't want to be reminded about UAC)

thanks!

There is no such way. That's Microsoft's way to promote the use of the UAC ;)
What you could do is turn the UAC back on but work as administrator (that account would have to be enabled, first). The account administrator is the only one that UAC does not influence even when activated.

Smart_Man, that got me curios. The regedit way can even be complete:
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Security Center]
"AutoUpdateDisableNotify"=dword:00000001
"UacDisableNotify"=dword:00000001
"InternetSettingsDisableNotify"=dword:00000001

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Security Center\Monitoring]

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Security Center\Svc]
"AntiVirusOverride"=dword:00000001
"AntiSpywareOverride"=dword:00000001
"FirewallOverride"=dword:00000001

That's all the settings you have to alter. However you have to change permissions on some registry branches first.

I am trying to solve the same issue.  That is, after disabling User Account Control, which does not have to be done via the registry as  the link at msfn.com indicates, I am still prompted repeatedly to check my user account control settings.
Upon navigating to the Security Center folder in the registry, I do NOT have any options to disable notification for UAC.  I have AutoUpdate DisagleNotify set to a value of 1, and have always had it set this way.  Under Security Center, there is a Monitoring folder, which has a default value which is not set, but no mention of UAC.  There is also a SVC folder with settings for AntiSpyware, AntiVirus, Firewall, and VistaSP!, but nothing for UAC.
When I try to create a new key, I'm told I don't have permission, though I am the Administrator of the computer, and this is the only account on the machine.
Any help is appreciated, other than being told "there is no such way".  If you know a way, please post it,  If  you don't know, please leave this for someone who does.  Thanks.

I posted here specifically to keep the question from closing, as the issue has not been resolved.   Experts Exchange has far too many unanswered questions that relate to the identical problems.  This question is "soon to be closed" which I take to me that it's still open for comments.
