Hi,
I have Vista Home Basic and have been happily using my Belkin USB mouse since Chrsitams on my HP notebook. It was working on Saturday afternoon when i shut my notebook down to transport it and when I opened it again 2 hours later there as no power.
Further investigation has confirmed that my 2 external USB ports are both now not functioning with anything - flash drives, mouse, camera, phone.
When I start the notebook with my mouse attached then it flashes on, gets power and as soon as the vista welcome screen comes up then nothing happens and it dies.
When I go into device manager I see the yellow triangle icon and when I click on properties the error message says 'windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware. the driver may be corrupted or missing. (Code 39)'
I scoured online and have tried uninstalling both hubs and when I try to reinstall i get a message that says 'Windows found driver software for your device but encountered an error while attempting to install it...The I/O operation has been aborted because of either a thread exit or application request'
I have not uninstalled the host controllers becuase frankly I'm scared too!! I don't know how easy it is to reinstall these drivers.
I have found that this may have something to do with a recent Vista update and downloaded and installed SP1 to see if it made any difference. Nothing!
I have a university project on my pen drive that is due in in 1 weeks time and I am only fortunate that I have been able to download it onto a friends laptop and email it to myself. If this is a Windows update problem this is disgraceful that no fix is available.
Any help is truly appreciated and required.
Thanks
Brian
