Documents and settings cannot be opened from an external hard disk onto a new computer

Hello

I'm trying to read an windows vista formatted, old hard disk from a new windows XP pro computer; in general everything reads, but \documents and settings folder. After I having adjusted the folders permission, granting full control to the new computer Administrator, an error message comes when I try to open \documents and settings (and some other folder). The error says that \documents and settings is not in an available location, but maybe in another hard disk or network disk. This makes no sense, because this disk were a fully self-sufficciente disk in a single hard disk system.

Additionaly, I cannot adjust \documents and settings permissions because "Security" tag is not shoing on the window, so I cannot press it to fine tuning configuration.

Any hint will be appreciated.

Thank you
