Question

Windows Vista Boot Error

Asked by: RavingNun

Upon booting my PC yesturday, I cut off the power for various reasons. However when I tried booting up again, before the VIsta loading screen comes on I get the following message from the "Windows Boot Manager"

Windows failed to start. A recent hardware or software change might be the cause. To fix the problem:
1. Insert your WIndows installation disc and restart your computer.
2. Choose your language settings, and then click "Next.".
3. Click "Repair your computer."

If you do have this disc, contact your system administrator or computer manufacturer for assitance..

File: \Windows\system32\config\system
Status 0xc000000f
Info: Windows failed to load because the system registry file is missing ,or corrupt.

I can then press "Enter" to continue or "ESC" to restart my comptuer.

I dont have the WIndows disc with me, in fact I think I lost it. Is there a repair tool I can use for incident like this?

You really need to have a Vista DVD - an evaluation one will do, or can you could beg or borrow one ?

by: LeeTutorPosted on 2008-07-01 at 04:46:48ID: 21906611

Too many computer manufacturers don't furnish a Vista installation DVD with their pcs that are pre-installed with Vista.  Often they only have a hidden recovery partition that you can access to take back your pc to its original factory installation state!  (Thus you lose your data and all installed applications, setting changes, etc.)

If you don't have an installation DVD, then you cannot reinstall Vista without using this recovery partition, and you cannot access the new Vista Recovery Environment, which is what corresponds to XP's Recovery Console.  So, if you don't have a Vista installation DVD, what do you do in order to access the Vista Recovery Environment, at least?  If you have a CD burner on your pc and a fast broadband connection to the internet, you go to this site and download the makings for a recovery disk:
