The Windows firewall is turned off; it is running SEP 11 client (AV, Proactive threat protection only, no network protection). No other security software on there (that I know of...)

Browse All TopicsI have a small office network setup with Vista (Home Premium SP1, all patches applied) sharing a folder with full R/W access for everyone (share is hidden with a "$" at the end of the share name). Set it up yesterday, and all was working. I get a call today that a user can't connect. Sure enough, his Win XP PC hangs when connecting to his mapped drive (to the share on the Vista PC). Rebooting the Vista PC fixes things. I leave, and 1/2 hr later, the problem is happening again. Why is Vista clamming up on the share? Any leads are appreciated.

Ah, Symantec Endpoint Protection 11. Had a look at the requirements for that one. Maybe it is a slight incompatibility? For vista it seems to need "Symantec Network Access Control 11.0.2 (Maintenance Release 2) and later only" - is that installed?
Remember: although deactivated...local firewalls are always suspect to ruin network setup. I would uninstall SEP for a test.

It's probably some third party software wrecking your network setup. It could be a third-party-firewall or security suite. Even viruses are known for doing such wrecking.
