I just checked and they still don't have a new driver out yet.
A script to re-install the driver sounds like a good plan on paper but I don't know where to start in doing that for a Vista PC.
Main Topics
Browse All TopicsI have about 350 PCs all running Windows Vista Business without Service Pack 1 (SP1) installed. I am in the process of pushing out SP1 to all of them. I recently pushed it out to a pilot group of 10 PCs using a script and SP1 gets installed successfully, however, some user's local printers or scanners would no longer work:
-HP LaserJet 3050 Printer/Scanner: Printing was Ok, but could no longer scan; Had to delete printer object and scanner object (within Device Manager) and then restart. Vista then re-recognized the 3050 and then both printing and scanning worked.
-HP LaserJet P1505 Printer: Printing wouldn't work; Had to uninstall the printer, restart and then reinstall to get printing to work again.
I did have one other PC of the 10 that had an HP LaserJet 1022 and it was not affected by SP1. But I have about 60 PCs that have a 3050 attached and I want to avoid having SP1 break scanning capability. Any suggestions for troubleshooting this?
Notes:
-I setup a test PC with a 3050 attached to it and was able to duplicate the problem with scanning after SP1 was applied to it, so the first one was not a fluke.
-Prior to installing SP1 to these 10 PCs, I had previously installed the following MS Hotfixes per MS's recommendation: KB937287, KB938371 and KB949939

Looks like the Twain driver might be at issue. I haven't run the SP1 with "scanning", but it sounds like all your printers are locally connected - is this true?

It appears HP will be re-writing their driver, which "supposedly" will be release soon (see comments from above link). I would strongly recommend either (a) waiting until the new driver is available and installing it before you release SP1 ---or--- (b) writing a script to re-install the drivers after the SP1 install.
