The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

Missing 3D Apps on Vista Ultimate

Tags: Microsoft, Vista, SP1, with all important and recommended updates installed

I have a Dell6400, which has mobility radeon X1300 graphics card. After I installed Vista, it ran fine, Aero was on and everything seemed rosy. Until, one day, suddenly, Zune software would NOT run and only show the window borders and sounds.
Same was the case with Vista games like spider solitaire, solitaire. Only the window borders used to show up and not the content. Sound etc was working.

Upon further inspection, I found that the Catalyst software of ATi (drivers released by Dell) couldn't show any of the live 3D rendered video or images. Only the Pre-rendered images was working. Same was with the video too.

Another major problem was that all the notification icons such as antivirus, Dell SupportCenter and other such icons are missing once the problem starts. There is no sign of hiding then notification icons too, though I tried few registry hacks to delete the tray icons cache and like that.

I had this issue once, thought it was software glitch and reinstalled entire OS. This is 2nd time happening, and all this after it RAN perfectly fine for say a week.

I read that DX10 wasn't supported by X1300 and I even used modded drivers (MobilityModder.NET).
Can't I use Vista anymore?
