I recently upgraded from XP to Vista Ultimate, which seemed to go smoothly. However, Vista is not seeing my PCI Express video card. I see the PCI Express bus has a conflict with VgaSave, but that tells me nothing. I have tried reinstalling the chipset drivers to no avail. I have also done some extensive Google research, but have come up with nothing pertinent. HELP!!!

All I can offer is that there are a number of different variation on the 610 chipset - make sure you have the correct drivers - get the lastest ones from http://www.nvidia.com/Down
I apreciate that, but it is not a problem with the driver version, or the drivers installed. I have the correct and most current drivers, and have tried a number of different versions of chipset drivers and video drivers, however, that is NOT the root issue. The root issue is that Windows tells me that it cannot allocate the resources for the PCI-E bus, therefore does not even recognize that there is a graphics card plugged in to the slot. It shows that I have no video card at all, but still runs the VGASAVE service to give me display. The drivers on the CD that came with the motherboard, as well as the nvidia drivers from the website have been installed to no avail. UAC has been turned off to allow the reboot.exe program (which finishes installing the vista drivers) can execute, but still nothing. The device manager shows that I have 3 PCI-E root controllers installed, and all three of them are showing that fatal ! mark next to them stating that they cannot be loaded due to inadequate resources. VGASAVE is using the resources that the PCI-E slot is set to apparently use, and they cannot be changed.

Well okay, but I've tried installing the chipset drivers from the Mobo CD, from the nvidia webiste, from the motherboards manufacturers website, and i've noticed they are actually exactly the same version. I've gone so far as to even try deleted the actual PCI controller (which deleted everything attached to it) so that windows could re-find and reinstall the devices as it saw fit. I'd like to add also, that remove the card completely from PCI-E slot DOES allow windows to see the onboard card, and i can install the drivers fine for that (As it doesn't use that PCI-E). Also, the device manager does NOT allow me to change the resources used for the VGASAVE driver or the PCI-E bus, and my motherboard does not allow that to be changed also. I've tried deactivating everything I don't need in the BIOS (LPT, seriel, onboard NIC) as well to see if that helped... but nothing. I have upgraded to the latest BIOS version as well, as I noticed that helped someone else with the same problem.
Ok, well I spent about 6 hours yesterday screwing around with my drivers... latest version, different versions... nothing worked. I ended up giving up on fixing the issue, backing all my data up and installing fresh. Now the drivers installed properly and everything is working. While this is not a solution to getting the drivers working under the upgrade, I did solve my own problem. I am going to ask to have this closed.

You need to download and install the Vista drivers for your video card - download and install then from the video card mnufacturers web site
