Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. Cannot hear sound on DVD on computer

We have a DVD with audio/video which works fine on a DVD Player.  However, in any computer we try, we do not get sound.  Even in a brand new HP computer with a DVD drive which gets sound fine in every other way, the DVD does not produce sound.  It's possible the DVD is burned if that makes a difference.

It's not a question of mute or sound volume.
