Did the machine come with any Vista install or Vista system restore CD or DVD?
In any case the first step is to save your important files to another disk before restoring or formatting, as Punky suggested.

Browse All TopicsMy brother bought an e-machine. Recently his children downloaded a virus on it . The virus is av2010. It has slowed the machine down to where everything either freezes, locks up or does not respond to anything.
I am trying to format it or reformat it. It has windows vista already embedded on the machine. I cannot use the restore because I am afraid it has planted itself in the restore. As of right now his computer is full of spyware, adware and this virus.
I've tried contacting e-machine but they were NO help at all.
How do I get this computer functioning again?? Is it possible to reformat it?
If so, how ? And if you don't mind, I am not tech savvy so as simple as possible, would be much appreciated.
Thanks in advance

If the machine has recovery partition or restore option, then do it. Backup any data off before do so.
