The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

Vista Ultimate Reinstallation

Asked by dalsandhu in Windows Vista

Tags: Vista Ultimate Installation Partitions

Hi

I am attempting to install Vista Ultimate and have a question re which partition to choose when installing.

My current partitions are:
Volume: Blank, File System: Blank, Status: Healthy (EISA Configuration)
Volume: System (S:), File System: NTFS, Status: Healthy (System, Active, Primary, Partition)
Volume: Vista (C:), File System: NTFS, Status: Healthy (Boot, Page File, Crash, Dump, Primary Partition)

Capacity of S: is 1.46GB, and C: is 226.05GB.

All Layouts are 'Simple',and Type are 'Basic'.

When I do the install, it selects S: by default but says it needs 7GB to install there.

I am confused as it actually had Vista Ultimate already.

My question: should I opt to install on C: or should I expand the size of S: to accommodate 7-8GB? And what's on S: now if Ultimate needs 7GB to put itself there?

History for what it's worth is that I originally had Vista Home Premium and upgraded to Ultimate. Norton 360 wasn't behaving properly post-upgrade (despite disabling anti-virus as recommended). Symantec tech support weren't able to remove it even using Norton Removal Tool and suggested my system is 'unstable'. My network is now totally non-functioning due I think to Norton 360 Firewall which I can't get rid of. I've spent a lot of time trying to resolve my internet connection problems to see if any windows updates could fix my problems, but I think now it's time to cut my losses and install Vista Ultimate from scratch. Lesson is that I should have disabled the firewall or removed Norton 360 altogether before upgrading the OS.

Thanks.
