With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not?   • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. Can one marry a new Vista computer with an old (1993) Xerox 4030 printer?

Can I use my old (1993) Xerox 4030 printer with my (2007)  Dell Inspiron 530 computer with a Windows Vista Premium operating system.  If so, how?  

My prior computer,  Dell 4550 desktop with Windows XP Home Edition allowed me to add a printer by classifying my 4030 printer as an HP LaserJet Series II (HPLJS II) printer.  [I believe that the 4030 driver was sufficiently compatible/similar to that of the HPLJS IIs driver;  that enabled extending the productive  life of my 4030.  Can a similar (or any other) technique be used to add the 4030 printer to work with the Dell 530?   From what I have read,  the Dell 530 with Vista should be able to accommodate an HPLJS II providing one physically has the HPLJS II driver.

I never physically had the 4030s driver nor the HPJLS II driver on a stand-alone basis. HP no longer supports or offers a download of the HPLJS II driver.

Id like to believe that if there is a way to enable the use of the HPLJS II with a Vista computer, then there may be a way to enable the use of the 4030 printer with my newer Dell for at least 2002 versions of Excel and Word.  E-mail etc. would be nice too.

Can EXPERTS EXCHANGE solve my 4030 problem(s) at least to the extent of enabling the print out of 2002 level WORD and EXCEL documents.?

I have purchased a special printer cable which has the parallel connector at one end and a USB connector at the other end.  If the 4030 can only service 75% of my copies, Ill live with two printers.

If someone KNOWS that the 4030 canNOT be made compatible with a VISTA computer, that would also be useful information.
