The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. Comments and suggestions on my strategy on how to get a fast Vista PC

I am trying to get my desktop computer to boot and work as fast as possible. I am using it primarily with my MS Office suite, which means I am not trying to get a hyper fast gaming machine. Boot time and reliability are primary targets.

I have thus so far installed a Western Digital Velociraptor disk as the C-drive on which I have placed the system and all the software, and, secondly a D-drive, which is a WD Caviar Green.

I have 4GB of RAM and I have set the page file down to 1024MB as I thought that Vista would use my RAM more if I did this (Vista had set the page file to somewhare around the 3GB-range by default). I have then "cleaned up" the registry with PC Tools Desktop Maestro and after that defragmented the C- and D-drive using Perfect Disk10 with boot-time defragmention enabled.

Are there anything more that I can do in order to get my computer boot faster and respond as fast as possible when I am working with it? Happy to receive any suggestions and comments!
