McAfee will set the service to not start automatically because it comes with a similar service. If you really want to re-enable it, perform the following steps.
1. Go to Start and type "Services.msc" (without the quotes) but **do not** press "Enter"
2. Right-click "Services.msc" above in the Start Menu when it appears and select "Run as Adminstrator".
3. Click "Yes" or "Continue" when prompted.
4. Scroll down to and double-click "Windows Defender"
5. Change the "Startup Type" to "Automatic" or "Automatic (Delayed Start)" (If available).
6. Click "OK"
7. Restart your computer and it should start automatically.
